Event Details

This 7 hour workshop intensive will explore techniques developed by Rio
Wrenn and inspired by the ancient craft of Kalamakari from India. By using
natural fibers such as silk, and basic elements such as iron and various
tannins we will explore the magic of printing and dyeing. This workshop is
for all levels and can be applied to various art practices such as printing,
painting, paper arts, encaustic, weaving, etc. You will gain a basic
understanding of plant based tannins combined with one mordant, iron. We
will use harvested plant material and extracts to compare shades and two
iron baths. I will also demonstrate a few simple shibori techniques that
you can use to create pattern. The materials are included in the class fee.
You will create several samples and make a scarf with the knowledge gained
from the time we spend creating.

This is a natural and ecological method that is quick in its results and has
low impact on our environment.

There will be a one hour lunch break and weather permitting we will go to
Cathedral Park. I will have tea and coffee plus a few snacks so bring a
lunch.

Fee = 150.00
