Event Details

Moroccan rugs from the Berber tribes are well-known as decor. But they are first and foremost utilitarian art, with a history, design, and language that reveal much of Berber culture, one of the world’s oldest but least studied living cultures. This informal talk will pull from our extensive collection to show examples of regional tribal groups and explore the symbolic language of Berber art. Come ready to sit on the rug piles and learn something of a wildly expressive textile art form. Questions and curiosity much encouraged!
