Pulp & Deckle

Jenn Woodward:
Jenn makes drawings, mixed media installations and works extensively with handmade paper. Her art explores the transformation of local and sustainable materials such as plants and used fabrics and investigates themes of empathy, place, ephemerality and mindfulness. She is an artist, educator, and arts administrator wearing the proverbial multiple hats. Connecting with art and artists has been a longtime thread in her education at HSPVA an arts high school in Houston, TX, at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY where she earned her BFA, and at the Tufts University + School of Museum of Fine Arts MFA program in Boston, MA where she graduated in 2006. Over the past 12 years living in Portland, OR she has taught, exhibited and lectured at locations throughout Oregon. She is a Project Manager at the arts non-profit org c3:initiative, and is co-owner of the community hand papermaking studio, Pulp & Deckle.

Gary A. Hanson:
Gary assists with all studio production and workshops when not at his day job at Arts People. He’s a sci-fi aficionado, and technology lover, with a brain for creating logical and efficient systems. Growing up in upstate NY, and spending a few years in Boston, he’s an East Coast transplant that feels like he’s found his home in Portland. For the past several years he has been collaborating with Jenn to create handmade paper artworks utilizing local plant fibers focusing on abstracted forms. When he’s not making paper, or whipping the administrative/technology side of the studio into shape, you can find him making audio magic with his podcast series, I’ll Have a Beer and Talk, a show about tech news, culture, weird animal stories and of course, beer. He also does audio production work for other podcasters, like Helen Hiebert, and her show, Paper Talk.
